After three years in the Eco Schools programme, the ADEAC assessment committee has awarded the green flag to eight of the Globeducate schools in Spain, including Coruña British International School.

After three years in the Eco Schools programme, the ADEAC assessment committee has awarded the green flag to eight of the Globeducate schools in Spain, including Coruña British International School. A recognition of all the environmental awareness work carried out both inside and outside the classroom by the school's educational community, which also serves as an incentive to continue working for the protection of the environment and the sustainability of our surroundings.

Carolina Rodríguez Inciarte, CEO of Globeducate in Spain and Andorra, and Vicenç Gandol Casado, Director of Agora schools, received the eight green flags yesterday, which will be sent to the award-winning schools for the flag-raising ceremony. The official ceremony was held on Monday 24th October at Agora International School Madrid, and also counted with the presence of the Head of School, Luis Madrid, as host of the event.

The CEO of Globeducate in Spain and Andorra, Carolina Rodríguez Inciarte highlighted how exciting this historic moment was for Globeducate member schools. "Our mission is about Shaping the World, and participating in the Eco Schools programme is all about putting students in our schools at the centre of this necessary change to transform the world. An initiative that not only takes place within the school but also transcends the boundaries of our classrooms, turning all our students and our schools into a referent of respect and care for the environment, inspiring our immediate surroundings, inspiring them to join us in our mission to change the world for the better".

Environmental awareness

Beyond the environmental aspect of this project, participating in the Eco Schools programme fosters soft skills amongst our students. "In order to achieve this objective, which is materialised in the achievement of the green flag, our students have had to work on the soft skills that are fundamental to face today's challenges.  Leadership, within their educational community as members of the eco-committee; public speaking and argumentation at home to explain to their families and friends why it is so important to care for and respect the environment, and teamwork, because you have achieved it with the whole community, students, teachers and families united for a common cause", he added.

Perhaps the greatest achievement of the programme is that it produces, over time, generations of environmentally conscious and sustainable people. Achieving the first green flag for Coruña British International School is just one step on the road ahead, as each school must follow a seven-step process of change that empowers its young people to lead projects and actions wherever possible.  "Achieving the green flag is just the beginning of this challenging journey, and from all Globeducate schools we will continue to work for the future of our planet", concluded Carolina Rodríguez Inciarte.
