Libraries are more than just rooms or buildings with shelves full of books. They are places where imagination comes alive, curiosity blooms and everyone can find a space to learn, grow and dream. In our school community, the library is a highly valued resource.

Last week, we had the opportunity to attend a two-day professional learning event hosted at Nobel Algarve British International School, one of our partner schools within the Global British International Schools (GBIS) group. The event brought together literacy leads and education professionals from across the GBIS network, with leaders travelling from Portugal, Spain, and England to take part in this valuable collaboration, and explore innovative, research-informed approaches to literacy instruction.

Sofia joined IPS Cascais at the start of this academic year. Having worked in paediatrics for over a decade, she places the health and welfare of children at the heart of everything she does. For her, being a school nurse is about much more than providing healthcare — it’s about contributing to the school community and nurturing children’s wellbeing, bringing lasting benefits for the future.

Mental health is what allows us to cope with stressful situations. It gives children (and adults alike) the tools to face difficulties with resilience, adaptability and confidence. Awareness is the key to change, and building this awareness begins at home and in school through open, empathetic conversations and environments that support emotional growth.

Zara joined IPS Cascais this academic year. As a self-proclaimed thrill-seeking, travel-loving teacher of 16 years, she brings her passion for adventure into the classroom! She is teaching Geography and Mathematics at IPS Cascais Secondary School. There’s nothing she loves more than exploring the world's wonders and uncovering the forces that shaped them. Zara is all about digging into critical thinking and pushing boundaries to explore every possible angle. Zara very much sees life as an adventure, and loves sharing the journey with her two amazing kids, husband and the pupils she gets the pleasure to teach.
