School assemblies have taken place in schools all over the world for many years. Most assemblies have one thing in common – they are a place and time where students and teachers come together for a shared purpose. That purpose is usually to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to consider spiritual and moral issues, to develop community spirit and reinforce positive attitudes. For us this is a time of reinforcing our school values of Respect, Learning, Integrity and Community. 

We use these opportunities for the whole primary school to be together for different classes to share the work they are doing in their classes. It is a wonderful time for children to build confidence in standing in front of all their peers to present and to experience a time of collective congratulations for what they are achieving.

Each week our assemblies are a time to celebrate positive behaviour throughout the week. Teachers award “Star of the Week” certificates for children who are demonstrating any of the school values on a consistent basis. For us this reinforces our expectations, gives children an opportunity to have their efforts recognised and celebrated and provides a lovely environment for us to develop and enhance our sense of the primary community. Here are the children who received their certificates this week.

 

Over the last two weeks we have used this time to work together on our student council. Children in year 6 wrote and presented their manifestos and all children were able to vote. I was pleased to announce in the assembly this week the children who have been elected.
