A student from St. George's British International School, winner of the "Public Speaking Challenge"

St. George's British International School

Our 4th ESO student, Ane Pascual Crespo, has won the "Public Speaking Challenge", organised by Blanquerna and Ramon Llull University and sponsored by Banco Sabadell and the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain.

This renowned competition seeks young presenters to explain what they believe the role of the media should be in relation to the global challenges of sustainability, responsible consumption (SDG 12) and peace. In today's world, the media are present in our daily lives and help us to see and understand the world. Key current issues such as sustainability, peace and partnerships reach us through television, social media, radio, podcasts, advertisements, and many more.

Video speeches
The requirements were clear, but not easy to take on board. Students interested in participating had to submit video presentations, with a maximum length of three minutes, 100% in English and be original and unpublished speeches. The deadline for video submissions was 4 April, and the competition organisers announced the five finalists on 9 April, including the student from St. George's British International School. On 22 April, the finalist videos were presented to a jury made up of media professionals and sustainability experts, appointed by Blanquerna-URL and the British Chamber of the event, who chose Ane Pascual as the winner.

The prize obtained by Ane consists of a 30% discount on the registration fee for the first year of the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication and International Relations, the professional recording of the speech, guidance and advice from experts and the publication of the speech on the sponsors’ websites.

"It has been a great experience. I feel motivated and eager to continue like this. It's not the fact that I won but the fact that I was chosen. My main aspiration for the future is to do my best, to be what I want to be and little by little to overcome my fears. I would love to feel one day that throughout my life I have fulfilled my dreams", says the winner of this event, Ane Pascual.
