Last weekend we officially added a new sporting sponsorship to our programme of support for grassroots sport in Vigo and its metropolitan area, with the celebration of the 1st O Castro British International School Sailing Race, organised by the Liceo Marítimo de Bouzas, which was attended by more than 40 boats, some of them crewed by students from O Castro, to whom we would like to specially congratulate.

Weather conditions helped the success of this sailing event, a sunny weekend but with enough wind to enjoy a fantastic weekend of sailing in the Ría de Vigo. In ILCA 4, with five races to his credit and a discard for the worst result, the winner was the member of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo sailing team, Alejandro Pérez, with three partial golds, adding 6 points. Second was Jorge Costas, with 11 points and third was Alba Cayetana Alonso, with one more point than Pérez, both also from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo.

The absolute podium in ILCA 6, with six races, was also won by the Real Club Náutico from Vigo, led by Tiago Vecino, with 13 points, matched by his partner Marina Couñago, who was second. Jorge Rasilla was third, with 21 points. Tiago Vecino also won the I Juan Pazó Martínez Trophy, for being the sailor with the best partial results.

Finally, the ILCA 7, also with six races, sailors with a longer sporting career, provided a spectacle with their spectacular sails that carried more wind, with the triumph going to Jaime Carreras, from the Real Club Náutico, with 9 points. Second was, finally, the Portuguese Serafim Gonçalves, from Clube Naval Povoense, leader of the first day, with 10 points, closing the podium with 13 points, Miguel Reboreda, from Real Club Náutico Portosín.

The ILCA Masters were awarded, with the victory going to Antonio Gaona, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo. The awards ceremony was held in the Main Hall of the Liceo de Bouzas, with the attendance of its president Miguel Pereira, who was accompanied by Eliana Forti, Berta Martín and Montse Pérez, representing O Castro British International School, and Carmen Latorre, Juan Pazó's wife, and his sister María José Pazó, whose first trophy was held in his memory.
